Home of The Beatles

Today we ventured over to Liverpool, a port city in England which is close to Manchester. It's claim to fame is for being the home of The Beatles. Here's some pictures to get you acquainted with the city.

St. George's Hall:

John Moores University:

Albert Dock:

We went to The Beatles Story, which is a museum that takes you through a listening tour from The Beatles' early lives to their break-up as a group. The exhibits were set up as recreations of the different venues and stages of their journey.

We went over to another building after lunch to finish our tour, seeing the White Feather exhibit, The Beatles Hidden Gallery, and Fab4D. The White Feather exhibit was dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. It featured his son Julian and ex-wife Cynthia detailing his private and public life. The Beatles Hidden Gallery is a collection of photographs taken of The Beatles by a boy for his school project and were just discovered and made public in April 2010.

The last exhibit, The Fab4D, was an absolute let-down. It was a short 4D filmed - you received 3D glasses, then to make it 4D your chair moved and there were special effects like water/ bubbles shooting out at you. However, the plot line had absolutely nothing to do with The Beatles; the score just featured their songs.

Then, we headed to The Cavern Club, the club where The Beatles first played. They spent most of their time here in the early years.

It was a beautiful day today. Maybe the first time sunglasses have actually been necessary. And I loved being so close to the water. Liverpool sits on the Liverpool Bay, which in turn feeds into the Irish Sea.

The Tate International modern and contemporary art museum is also located in Liverpool. In my favorite room, you received headphones and got to choose between A or B, 2 music options that played so that you could dance on one of the exhibits. Another exhibit was human molds made completely out of toast (the English really do love their tea and toast).

The largest Anglican cathedral in all the UK and Europe resides in Liverpool. The Liverpool Cathedral, as it is known, was finished in 1978, but has many characteristics of more historic churches. You really can't even describe the vastness of this cathedral; it's completely breathtaking.

It's amazing how tiring even a day trip can get. On the way back, I slept for most of the bus ride. And I'm about to call it a night for I have another big day of exploring ahead of me!
